OP#1
This section is for near-death experiences (NDEs): what people report after coming close to death, and what research has found. Treat every account as a claim to test, not as proof either way.
Where to start
- UVA Division of Perceptual Studies: Near-Death Experiences: University of Virginia research program, including Bruce Greyson's NDE studies.
- NYU Langone News: Patients Recall Death Experiences After Cardiac Arrest: the AWARE II study led by Sam Parnia, published in Resuscitation (2023).
- NDERF: Near Death Experience Research Foundation: Jeffrey Long's archive of self-reported NDE accounts.
- IANDS: International Association for Near-Death Studies: nonprofit that publishes NDE research and runs support groups.
Know what each source is
- UVA and the AWARE studies are research: they report methods, sample sizes and limits.
- NDERF collects self-reported accounts. They are testimony, not verified events.
- IANDS is an advocacy and research nonprofit.
How to post here
- Link the study or the account you're discussing, and say which it is.
- Separate what was reported, what was measured, and what is interpretation.
- Medical and neuroscience explanations and spiritual or survival explanations are both on topic. Bring evidence for either.
- Don't post private medical details about other people, or anyone's personal information.
AI answers are a starting point, not a source. Cite the documents they point you to.
